Herrington Lake is located in the bluegrass of Kentucky approximately 35 miles south of Lexington. It is bordered by Boyle, Mercer and Garrard counties with the closest towns being Danville, Harrodsburg, Lancaster and Burgin. The lake is approximately 35 miles long with 325 miles of shoreline and covers 3600 aces at full pool (740' above sea level). The lake was formed in 1925 by the construction of a hydroelectric dam on the Dix River approximately 2 miles upstream from the confluence of the Dix and Kentucky Rivers which is near Wilmore. On March 17, 1925 the diverting tunnel was closed and the lake began to form and it took eight months to fill and is approximately 300' deep at the dam. Originally built as a hydroelectric dam, today Herrington lake has become much more. It is a popular lake for fishing and boating. The lakeside homes are an eclectic array of fishing cabins and $1 million plus year around homes. There are two golf course communities on the lake, Old Bridge in Boyle County and Woodlawn Estates (Peninsula Golf Club) in Garrard County. The entire shoreline is owned by Kentucky Utilities and is not under the jurisdiction of the Army Corp of Engineers or other state agencies. Kentucky Fish & Wildlife provide law enforcement for boating and fishing regulations.
I've been a full time realtor for over a decade servicing buyers and sellers of all types of real estate in Boyle, Mercer, Lincoln and Garrard counties. Herrington Lake waterfront property has become my specialty. I live on the lake in Mercer Country and am familiar with the many unique areas of the lake. Ten years ago, I helped found the Herrington Lake Conservation League, an organization dedicated to preserving the lakes natural beauty.
In addition, I hold the SRES designation of a Senior Real Estate Specialist which is designed to help 'seniors' make the right decisions about selling their homes and finding a new one.
I am an agent with Coldwell Banker VIP Realty, Inc in Danville, KY, Nina Kirkland, Principal Broker
